The Mirrorbox Journey Continues…
This September the journey continues with visits planned over the next year. Every stop the Mirrorbox stands for someone who cannot be presentโamplifying their voice and message and acknowledging their absence. Thank you to the organisations behind each location who are enabling us to be there.
Visit, follow and spread the word. Our hope is to amplify the absence of so many missing from the everyday.

Visiting the Mirrorbox
We will include as much information as possible to help you find and visit the Mirrorbox on its journey. Some information will only be available nearer the visit date. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact us
All Mirrorbox visit dates advertised have been confirmed and permissions granted, However, visits may be subject to change. For outside locations, poor weather may result in the visit having to be delayed or cancelled at relatively short notice. We will post updates on social media and on the website as early as possible.
The Mirrobox itself is free for everyone to visit. However, some locations, e.g. a private land or building may charge fees to access the area. Details of any fees can be found by clicking on the information for each Mirrorbox visit (when available).
Travel and location specific access information is provided for each Mirrorbox location. You will find this within the details for each visit.
An accessibility survey will be completed for each visit. We hope to supply as much information as possible to inform you as to if a visit is possible.
Messages are deeply honest and sensitive, often touching on grief and loss. Our first priority is to honour the trust placed in us by those who send them. Because of the nature of the experience, the Mirrorbox is not suitable for young children.
Accessibility
Every place the Mirrorbox will visit has been chosen by someone who can no longer get there.
Please remember: locations have been chosen by people who cannot access these places. By the very act of placing the Mirrorbox there, we are highlighting the inaccessibility of these locations for so many people.
Our hope is to make the Mirorbox as inclusive as possible. Each Mirrorbox visit will help us develop and refine access options for visitors. Weโve carried out our own accessibility surveys at each place and hope to provide as much information as possible, so anyone considering a visit can understand the challenges and decide if they are able to visit the location. Please do contact us if you have any questions about accessing these locations.
We know that for many of us, visiting the Mirrorbox wonโt be possible. Through drones, film, sound recordings and notes, weโre exploring ways to experience each place remotely. Join the community following the Mirrorbox and let us know what youโd like to see and hear.
Accessing the Mirrobox
The Mirrorbox sculpture
The Mirrorbox is an interactive installation. All exterior surfaces are mirrored. This can affect depth perception and may feel disorienting. Please take care when entering and moving around inside.
Support
The Mirrorbox always has two people from the project helping to manage access and are on-hand to support and help visitors access the experience
Physical access
The inside of the mirrored box is 1.5mยฒ and is accessed via a door To enter, visitors must step over a low bar at the base of the doorway approximately 20cm high. The team are on hand to assist
Due to the size and structure of the box, mobility aids cannot fit inside. We initially designed the Mirrorbox to accommodate this but with its bigger size we had issues with its increased weight which made it impossible to carry to locations. A chair is available (with arms) which can be placed inside upon request for seated access.
Inside the Mirrorbox
All interior surfaces are slightly mirrored, visitors are able to see out. The surface can affect depth perception and may feel disorienting. Please take care when entering and moving around inside.
A tablet and headset are provided to listen to the message left for the location. The tablet is on an adjustable arm and the headset has adjustable volume. A transcript of the recording can be viewed on the tablet
Gentle caution: The enclosed space and reflections may be visually or emotionally intense for some visitors.
Emotional wellbeing
By their very nature, these messages recall special times and places often inaccessible to the sender. Some messages contain potentially distressing themes of grief and loss.
The material may not be suitable for children or for those who are emotionally vulnerable.
Please take your time, and step away if needed. You are welcome to speak with a member of staff if you would like support or a quieter space.
