The Mirrorbox Journey

The Mirrorbox journey began in June 2025, travelling to message locations across Bristol and Somerset, and ending at the top of Glastonbury Tor. At each stop, people stepped inside to listen to the message โ€”standing for a moment to acknowledge the person who had chosen that place.

Hundreds wrote postcards back to the message sender. A small act of human connection between absent and present people through the shared love of a place.

Over the next few years, it will travel to loved locations across the UK.

I love this idea, making us visible in the spaces where we are missing – and maybe these spaces are missing us too...

The journey so far…

It is a clear blue day. A large tower stands high above on the top of a grassy hill. Next to the tower to the left is a box. It is big enough to stand inside. In the bright sunlight you can see through it. It looks just slightly darker than the sky. The top of man in a red top can be seen walking away to the right of the box and tower

Glastonbury Tor, Somerset

Read the story of the Mirrorbox’s day on top of Glastonbury Tor, Somerset.

The leaves of an oak tree frame a large mirrored box surrounded by long grasses. It is a cloudy day and the surfaces of the box are reflecting the sky, grass and trees around it.

A reflective day by LJs oak tree at Ashton Court, Bristol.

A sunny day with blue sky and clouds. A large brick chimney is on the left of the image. It is looming over a queue of people. They are waiting to enter a large mirrored box which you can see on the right of the photo. In the foreground is parched grass.

Troopers Hill, Bristol

Over 100 people listened to Lizzy’s beautiful message for Troopers Hill.

About the sculpture

The Mirrorbox is an interactive sculpture made of two-way mirrors. Reflecting the surroundings, those that step inside seem to disappear from view.

Inside, it’s quiet, you can see through the mirrors to the place you have just stood. A single voice of the message sender tells you about this place, a place that means so much to them

You are standing where they would be. Perhaps you love it too. Let them know by writing them a postcard in reply.
