We’ve been coming to Saltburn for years now. Although we live in Yorkshire only an hour away, it always feels like a really special holiday to come away to.
I watched my children grow up here, playing in the sand, drinking hot chocolate, eating fish and chips, surfing. First with buckets and spades on the beach and then later with steam train rides and walking out along the pier to watch the sun go down.
Photography walks and playing in the arcades, scooting through the park and fearlessly sliding down the slides. I can’t do this now and I miss this place. I miss the endless views of the ever-changing sea, the moments of calm and quiet when the crowds have gone for the day. The colours of the sand and the sky, the pink sunsets and the foggy mornings, the smell of the salty air. I miss this place.
Instead I’m here in my bed 24 hours a day for the last year. I can only hug my children for a few minutes a day.
Soon they will come here. Their mum’s going to bring them for a few days at half-term and they will play on the beach and they will run in the sea and they will build sand castles and laugh and they will eat too much sugar. They will have a brilliant time. But I won’t be there. I miss this place, this special place. Enjoy every minute of your day here,
make the most of it. Be with your loved ones, Be present in this beautiful town full of joy and fun.
