It’s here on a Monday evening that Liz Martin weaves her own special kind of magic, making you feel welcome, putting you at your ease and astonishingly in my case, giving the confidence that you can sing and that you belong.
I loved the songs we sang, my absolute favourite being Moon River. And it still makes me smile and tingle when I think of those beautiful harmonies. And we marked the seasons as we went through each year.
We sang our way around the world, often in different languages. And we came together to commemorate the events in our lives – the good times, the birthdays and anniversaries with great joy, the difficult and painful times by standing together and singing in heartfelt unity.
I do miss places and the freedom to go where I want, walking or cycling through the countryside. I even miss shopping and choosing my own fruit and veg, but it’s people I miss most of all.
So thank you, dear choir, for being such a joyful and memorable part of my life.

It was so lovely to hear what a wonderful community was built at your choir Helen and I can understand why you must miss it so much. Singing together with others has such an incredible way of making you feel happy. I hope that in time you will be able to make it back to sing together with them again. Xx

I remember loving being in a choir at school. My grandad was always trying to get me and my sister to enter the BBC’s Choirgirl of the Year 😂
Your description feels full of life and joy. Im sure you are greatly missed. I’m so so sorry that you don’t get to experience that currently. Only today I was thinking how when healthy people struggle in various ways, they can venture out or find comfort in a change of scenery or within community. We must work so hard to find comfort when we cannot access the things that used to bring life.
I absolutely relate to missing people and that sense of belonging.
May you know today that the loss of missing your choir is acknowledged and important; that your courage to keep going in the face of missing out on your joys is trophy-worthy and that you are seen.
May you also be cheered on, somehow involved in other things that feed your soul and May there be-somehow- brighter, easier days ahead. Thank you for sharing, Helen.
