Two brown brick pillars holding up a metal black and gold sign that reads "You'll never walk alone". There is people walking under this sign and a grey stadium behind.

Anfield Stadium, Liverpool

I’ve always had to travel up to go watch Liverpool play, which has always been one of my favourite things to do. But of course, with having M.E. it has made it alarmingly more difficult, because I can’t just factor in the going to the stadium, I’ve got to factor in getting to Liverpool although I’ve got family up there I can stay with, it’s still quite a big chunk of my energy to go into this one event, especially now I have children as well.

I think what’s making me want this place more than anything else, is my daughters support Liverpool too and they’ve never been, because they came into the world while I’ve relapsed and was unable to go to the games like I used to go to.

I think for me it would be that feeling when you walk up the steps for the first time and you see the green pitch out in front of you and all the scarves and โ€œYou’ll never walk aloneโ€โ€™; there’s so many emotions that I get from thinking about that. I think watching them, their reaction to how amazing it is, because you can’t beat that as a child that first time. But as a parent, whether walking or being wheelchaired in, to be able to watch their reactions would be amazing.

I think for me, Anfield, Liverpool as a whole, I can’t wait to take them up there and so they can see everything. You know  the beautiful city, the people, the history with the music and the football. It is the one thing that I’ve missed so much. I think the last time I went up to Anfield was when I was in remission (and that is going back some) we went up to the FA Cup run where we got beaten by Chelsea in the final about a decade ago now. I took my wife up (at the time we were just engaged, so we weren’t quite married yet).

I miss it and I just want the girls to be able to experience it, so this is where I’d want to be.
